It was a busy weekend for the young members of the Royal family as Prince William, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry travelled to northern England to attend the start of the 101st Tour de France.

“Hundreds of spectators greeted the royals in the Yorkshire village of West Tanfield,” reported People magazine. “On a cool, sunny day, the Duchess of Cambridge, 32, looked refreshed in her beloved nude LK Bennett pumps and green coat dress.”

And even though Prince George was not with his parents and uncle, he was still a part of the day.

“Prince George was acknowledged by the famous cycle race’s organizers and gifted with his own mini yellow jersey, the item given to winners throughout the Tour de France,” reported Hello! magazine. “Royal fans, who lined the Yorkshire streets to cheer on the cyclists, were also keen to talk about George, with one little girl asking where he was to which Kate replied ‘he’s asleep in his bedroom.’ The Duchess also gave an insight into what the little Prince enjoys playing with, telling one well-wisher that George is “interested in helicopters and anything with wheels.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, this is 20th time the Tour de France has started outside France: “Reflecting a growing enthusiasm for cycling in the U.K., organizers are holding the first three stages in England before returning to France and hitting classic territory for the famously gruelling mountain stages. (The bikes will get to France by boat.) This year also sees forays into Belgium and Spain.”

  1. Man, I really like all three Prince William, Harry and Duchess Kate. They really are fantastic diplomats for their country, admired by millions worldwide. Seems like time has gone by so quickly when just a short time ago the boys were just little kids. I wish them all the luck and good health in the coming years.
