Prince William decided to dive right in to his new role as president of the British Sub-Aqua Club — literally. The Duke of Cambridge put on a wetsuit and got into a pool as his father, Prince Charles, looked on approvingly.

“The 32-year-old royal was taking over his father Prince Charles, who was also present at the Oasis Sports Centre in London’s Covent Garden,” reported Hello! magazine. “As a keen swimmer and diver, William looked right in his element as he took to the water with a group of young divers. The Duke of Cambridge impressed with his aquatic skills, demonstrating different moves underwater and gliding around the pool in his flippers.”

Royal fans and correspondents were also amused by the young prince’s efforts to explain to his father what it means to be “buff.”

“The heir to the throne was shown a photo of himself, bare-chested, in the 1970s at a British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) event in London. Eugene Farrell, chairman of the BSAC, told guests that in his diving days the Prince of Wales was ‘quite buff,’ prompting bemused looks from the Prince,” reported Gordon Rayner of the Daily Telegraph. “The Duke of Cambridge leant over and explained to his father that the term meant he looked trim and athletic, saying: ‘Pa, you should be pleased!’ The Prince raised his eyebrows theatrically, but was clearly amused, telling guests: ‘I know my eldest will now demonstrate his buff credentials.’ “
