The propane tank on a parked food truck exploded in north Philadelphia Tuesday, injuring 12 people.
Surveillance video captured the blast, which sent flames shooting over 50 metres into the sky.
The explosion caused serious burns to a man and woman and a 13-year-old girl. Police said that nine other victims were taken to area hospitals for observation. The three seriously injured victims suffered second- and third-degree burns.
The incident occurred at the La Parrillada Chapina food truck around 5:30 p.m. According to USA Today, police are still investigating the nature of the explosion.
“We want to ensure that this was an accidental explosion. We want to ensure this wasn’t anything criminal,” Police chief inspector Scott Small said. “The bomb squad is investigating to see if there is any foul play.”
