Wimbledon star Eugenie Bouchard makes splash on UK front pages

Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard has caught the eye of British tabloids just ahead of her final match at Wimbledon.

Twenty-year-old Bouchard is the first Canadian to make it to a Wimbledon final and is being hailed as the “Queen of the court,” and British press seem especially enamoured with her royal name.

Bouchard was reportedly named after Princess Eugenie of York, daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York. What’s more, Bouchard’s twin sister Beatrice was named after that royal couple’s other daughter, Princess Beatrice of York.

With the final match on Saturday, Bouchard can be seen on several front pages, including The Times, Daily Express, The Daily Telegraph and The Daily Mail.

The Daily Express referenced Bouchard’s royal namesake, dubbing her “Princess Eugenie, The new Wimbledon superstar” while The Daily Telegraph and The Daily Mail chose to focus on her supposed feud with British tennis player Laura Robson. The press has also been hounding her about her dating life and feelings on Justin Bieber, because heaven forbid a female athlete simply be asked about her chosen sport.

Bouchard will face Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova on July 5 at 9 a.m. eastern time.
