During a press conference today, Mount Sinai’s Dr. Zane Cohen, the senior member of the clinical team treating Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, explained that the results of the biopsy performed today on Ford’s abdominal tumour will not be available for approximately a week.
“We will not have the results of the biopsy for about a week. And until we have that there is very little as far as what I can tell you in regard to what we have to do,” said Dr. Cohen during the press conference.
Earlier today Ford was transferred to Mount Sinai, located in downtown Toronto, less than 24 hours after being admitted to Humber River Hospital in Etobicoke for abdominal pain. The mayor’s transfer to Mount Sinai was reportedly for “follow-up investigations subsequent treatment.”
“Today we did a CT scan and biopsy of the mass in the abdomen. We also did a CT scan of the chest and we did an ultrasound examination. Tomorrow we need to do further investigations in the form of an MRI and we will have a multidisciplinary discussion between different clinical members to decide on the next steps,” said Dr. Cohen.

In term’s of Ford’s current condition, Dr Cohen explained that Ford is “resting comfortably.”
“As far as the clinical status of the mayor, he is resting comfortably. He has some pain – we are giving him some pain medication for that. He is surrounded by family members and that’s about it,” said Dr. Cohen.
There is still no word on whether Ford’s tumour is benign or malignant.
Rob Ford has less than 24 hours until the deadline for withdrawing from the Toronto election campaign, which is 2:00 p.m. Friday.
