Suspended senator Patrick Brazeau was arrested again Monday, this time for alcohol-related offences.
Gatineau Police said the 39-year-old was arrested shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday after an officer saw a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a car parked on Riviera Street in Gatineau. It was the second time the officer had cruised past the vehicle, but this time the officer decided to give the occupant a breath test, which, according to police, he failed.
He also failed a similar test at the police station after being taken into custody. Police also found a knife in the car.
Brazeau faces a variety of charges, including being impaired while in control of a vehicle, operating a vehicle while having an alcohol level of more than 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood, and breach of conditions on a previous charge.
He is scheduled to appear in Quebec Court in Gatineau Tuesday.
Last week, Brazeau, who was named to the Senate in 2009, heard that he would stand trial for sexual assault and assault in late March 2015. That case, stemming from a February 2013 incident, is what led to the former Conservative’s ouster from the party caucus.
This case is separate from an April 2014 incident where Brazeau was charged with assault, possession of cocaine, uttering threats and breaching bail conditions following an altercation involving a man and a woman at a home in Gatineau.
Brazeau also faces charges of fraud and breach of trust in connection with his Senate expense claims.
