GOLDEN, B.C. — A stolen vehicle believed to be connected with a man suspected of shooting an RCMP officer has been found but a manhunt continues in southeastern British Columbia.

Police say they're looking for 40-year-old Sheldon Kyle Thunderblanket, who is considered armed and dangerous.

The RCMP say they believe he is wanted for numerous charges in connection with a murder and attempted murder in Saskatchewan.

A news release from the RCMP in Saskatchewan says one person was found dead and another with serious injuries at a residence on Little Pine First Nation on Oct. 10.

It named Thunderblanket as a wanted suspect.

Police say the officer was shot Tuesday after a vehicle believed to be involved in a theft near Golden was stopped.

The situation escalated quickly and the RCMP said the suspect got away by stealing a vehicle at gunpoint.

The wounded officer was still in hospital Wednesday and her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Police have released few details about the officer who was wounded, but Rob Creasser of the Mounted Police Professional Association of __canada says the female officer was shot in the arm.

The stolen vehicle was found Tuesday night by police outside Revelstoke, where an extensive search of the area was done throughout the night, but no arrests have been made.

Revelstoke Mayor Mark McKee said it's been an unsettling time.

"The community is on edge," he said.

"It's a scary situation for everybody — especially the RCMP."

The shooting closed Highway 1 west of Golden for several hours Tuesday. Traffic was reduced to one lane Wednesday.
