‘You’d make a meme of our dead bodies’: Celebrities respond to those mocking Kim Kardashian robbery

Kardashian attends the Givenchy show as part of the Paris Fashion Week Womenswear Spring/Summer 2017 on October 2, 2016 in Paris, France.

It’s no secret that Kim Kardashian and her rise to fame via reality television is polarizing. But when news came Sunday night that she had been tied up and held at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room by men masquerading as policemen as they robbed her of millions of dollars worth of jewellery, the claws came out on Twitter, with many social media users brazenly cheering the armed robbery.

“Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening, by two armed masked men dressed as police officers,” Kardashian’s spokesperson Ina Treciokas said in a statement. “She is badly shaken but physically unharmed.”

The news lead to a mix of Twitter reactions:

*knock knock*

Kim Kardashian was feeling neglected since the spotlight is on election and needed some press! What a pathetic LOSER

Funny thing about this Kim Kardashian robbery is that I bet camera crew caught everything on tape.

Ratings will be awesome next season.

There is nothing funny about Kim Kardashian being held at gun point. She may be rich but she's also a mother, sister, wife and a human being

— theironicbitch (@JordanJacob01) October 3, 2016

Even being a fan of Kim Kardashian or not, it's v tasteless to make jokes about her being robbed. She's a mom, a wife, a daugther, a human

Y'all hatred for Kim Kardashian is way too deep. If you can't even show empathy for her getting robbed your hatred runs way too deep.

It’s an inappropriate reaction to a serious event, but not one that is altogether surprising. Several celebrities — even Piers Morgan, a frequent critic of Kardashian’s — offered their support and a warning to the not-so-well-wishers.

Chrissy Teigen, who is a friend of Kardashian’s, wrote, “Fame is interesting. Celebs are supposed to love you guys while also knowing you’d make a meme of our dead bodies to get retweets.”

People making jokes about @KimKardashian tonight would do well to remember that she's a mother,a daughter,a wife,a friend.Be nice or shut up

Some shit just isn't funny. I see you trying, but it isn't.

Fame is interesting. Celebs are supposed to love you guys while also knowing you'd make a meme of our dead bodies to get retweets

I dunno. It's hard to explain because everyone thinks money and fame is pure awesome, so it just sounds whiny. I get it, trust me. Go off.

Never understood Kim K hate. She never does anything wrong or offends anyone. You hate her because you want to be her.

Feel very sorry for @KimKardashian. Must have been a terrifying experience. #Paris #robbery
