Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII finally has an official title — The Last Jedi

The next highly-anticipated Star Wars movie and sequel to The Force Awakens has been granted an official title: The Last Jedi.

Of course, this prompts the very important question: who is The Last Jedi? Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker is the first option to come to mind, but would that mean the actor will be playing a more central role in the new movie? Or maybe it could be referring to Rey, who certainly exhibited some slick Jedi skills in Force Awakens.

Director Rian Johnson recently confirmed not much time will pass between both films, with The Last Jedi picking up right where The Force Awakens left off with Rey standing before Luke and handing him back his old lightsaber.

John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, Dohmnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, along with an appearance by Carrie Fisher (filmed before her death) will all return for the next instalment, alongside newcomers Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran. It is scheduled to hit theatres on December 15, 2017.
