A video shot by a Toronto woman on Wednesday appears to show a Canada Post employee swearing liberally at her and throw something at her.

Diane Jansen said she stopped to complain that the delivery truck had parked illegally in the bike lane on St. George St., which runs north and south through the University of Toronto campus.

But she said his reaction to her complain prompted her to start recording the interaction.

She promptly shared the recording with several media outlets and prominent cycling advocates, as well as Canada Post.

Canada Post replied that they are investigating the behaviour now.

Transportation policy in Toronto is highly politicized and divisive. Cyclists, motorists, pedestrians and transit users are all clamouring for the same road space and bike lane debates in city council have become highly confrontational events. City bylaws restrict motorists from parking in bike lanes, though there are exemptions for taxis picking up or dropping off fares as well as vehicles loading or unloading a person with a disability. School buses picking up or dropping off kids are similarly exempt.

Delivery vehicles are not allowed to block the lane.

The fine for blocking the bike lane in Toronto is $150.
